Q: What is Button Up?
A: Button Up Vermont is a community-based, public outreach campaign to help Vermonters reduce their heating (and cooling) costs. Button Up is funded and facilitated by Efficiency Vermont and supported by a broad range of statewide and regional organizations and utilities. These entities work with Vermont communities and community organizations to help residents reduce their energy costs through weatherization measures such as air sealing and insulation. The campaign is designed to provide opportunities for all individuals to take action – from simple weather stripping to comprehensive home energy efficiency improvements. By mobilizing Vermonters around energy-saving actions, we can reduce their energy costs, increase comfort, and help Vermont reach its statewide emission reduction goals.
Q: When does the Button Up campaign run?
A: The official Button Up Vermont media campaign runs each year from October through November. Additionally, community partners often create or leverage existing community events to promote weatherization work outside of the official campaign timeframe.
Q: Can I start promoting Button Up before the official annual campaign begins?
A: Yes, you or your organization/committee are welcome to promote weatherization any time of the year, not just during the official Button Up campaign. Feel free to request materials at any time.
Q: How can my town or organization participate in Button Up Vermont?
A: The definition of a “participating town” has changed over time. In an effort to reduce barriers to participation, this year, individuals, towns, and organizations can choose how they want to contribute to the Button Up effort. Participate as much or as little as you are able. Engagement can be as simple as posting information about an upcoming virtual Button Up event to your local Front Porch Forum. Larger endeavors such as staffing a table at a community event or even hosting an event of your own, are also great ways to spread awareness about the benefits of weatherization. Check out the Partner Toolbox for resources to help you promote Button Up in your community.
Q: I'm hosting an event. Can I have it posted on the Button Up website?
A: Yes! We can post your event to our events page. Just complete this form.
Q: Can I get Bub’s the Button Up Bears’ autograph?
A: He’s a very busy bear this time of year, but we’re happy to coordinate an autograph if you want one.
